Stralfors has sold its payment transactions business to PBS in Denmark. Under the terms of the agreement, business operations in the Stralfors Payment Unit that relate to payment services will be taken over by PBS with effect from 30 September 2008. All 60 or so employees working in the unit affected will be transferred to PBS.
“The cornerstone of the PBS strategy is to create growth in all our core businesses. We aim to be a strong international partner on the Nordic market, and the Stralfors unit for payment services fits in well with our concept. This will give us access to a considerable amount of card transaction business which will reinforce our overall position in Sweden,” says Flemming L. Jensen, CEO of PBS A/S.
In addition to expanding its operations in the Nordic region in this way, PBS also takes over the well-established ePayment services of the Swedish mail, parcels and logistics company, Posten AB, which manages Internet payments on the Swedish market. PBS also takes over customer contracts for chains of stores and banks that currently have agreements with Stralfors for handling card payments. As a consequence of the acquisition PBS is also initiating a strategic alliance with Posten AB with regard to business development in fields such as distance selling, payments and logistics.
“Stralfors payment solutions have only been available within Sweden, but there has been an increasing demand from customers for Nordic and European solutions. PBS has a Nordic strategy and the competence and expertise to support the entire Posten Group with payment solutions. For this reason, we believe our payment services unit has a totally different potential for development under the PBS umbrella,” says Per Samuelson, President of Stralfors.
PBS already has a sales office in Sweden, PBS International AB, in Stockholm. This office works mainly with payment service transactions for international payment cards and with the sale of electronic payment terminals.
